Temple Meadow Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.

If a member of staff is concerned about a child’s welfare, they will record their concern and any observations or conversation heard and report to one of the Designated Safeguarding Team as soon as possible, the same day.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that doing such would be contrary to the child's welfare.

If you have any concerns that a child has been harmed or is at risk of harm please contact the School Office as soon as possible and ask to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

We also have a Designated Safeguarding Governor, Ben Riley, who is our Chair of Governors.

All of the adults who work in school have a responsibility to read and understand all safeguarding policies and to act within our policy at all times.

Operation Encompass

Temple Meadow take pride in our excellent day-to-day safeguarding practices and meet all of our required statutory duties.

Across Sandwell and nationally, Domestic Abuse incidences are on the rise and these have a devastating impact on children lasting into adulthood.

Can you imagine arriving at school in the morning, after you have heard and/or seen your parents arguing and one being hit? You may not have slept or had breakfast. Your home is in disarray, you don’t have your P.E. kit and now have to sit in class and learn about adverbs. You are worried about your parents and want to be with them, but you are also very worried about what will happen when you do go home at the end of the day. You don’t know how to feel.

This is happening at our school. In order to fully support all of our children in the best possible way, we are taking part in a joint project with the West Midlands Police called Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is a Police school-based early intervention to provide immediate support to any child victim or witness to Domestic Violence.

It has been live since October 2018. Operation Encompass report to us on the next school day where a child has been exposed in any domestic incident. This information is received by Miss Dale, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and support is put into place on entry to school. The Pastoral Team may also contact families and talk to children to identify the most appropriate and best support we can.

Working with wider agencies 

At Temple Meadow we believe strongly in working with wider agencies and ensuring that children and families are receiving the right help at the right time in the right way.

Where a family is receiving targeted support, whether Family Help or Statutory Social Work, you will have an allocated Pastoral Support Key worker within school. This key worker will maintain regular contact with you, attend any meetings with wider agencies and advocate for your child.
